Transformation is Perpetual and All Inclusive

A global crisis, ever-changing geopolitics, and increasing expectations from players in the marketplace set the stage for Perpetual Transformation.  It is the organizations that recognize both the need to change and the path to dynamic transformation that not all survive but thrive under these market conditions. Additionally, every change – like raindrops upsetting still water – can disrupt every area of the business.

In this session, we will explore how the best organizations establish a flexible business transformation platform, clearly connect business outcomes to actions & value creation, and engage every employee for optimal & measurable performance.

Key takeaways:

  1. SAP RISE
  2. SAP S/4 HANA
  3. SAP Finance Transformation
  4. Human Xperience Management (HXM) with SAP SuccessFactors
  5. SAP Business Transformation Platform (BTP)
  6. SAP Business Process Integration with Signavio

Woodward's Journey with SAP RAR (Revenue Accounting and Reporting) and COPA (Profitability Analysis)

Woodward recently completed one of its largest-ever IT/Finance projects: an implementation of SAP Revenue Accounting and Reporting (RAR) for compliance with the new revenue recognition guidelines (ASC 606). We were working with two different ERP systems, one general ledger, strict US government contracting requirements, and a global footprint.

In this session, we will review Woodward’s system landscape and how it changed during the project, including where we needed to make performance improvements and configuration changes in our core SAP system (aside from just the RAR changes). We’ll look at how Woodward managed and structured the project team, the process of choosing our consulting partner, the overall project timeline, and our training approach. We’ll also review lessons learned and challenges of the implementation, how we were able to track down some hidden problems, and what will be covered in the next phase of our revenue recognition journey.

Woodward achieved compliance with the new revenue recognition standards, and we’ve identified several other opportunities to improve our systems and processes, both in and outside of finance.

Key takeaways:
1. What to consider when implementing a single tool across multiple ERP systems
2. When and why to engage other parts of the organization on a “finance” project
3. How we found and solved hidden errors

Implementing Enterprise DevOps in a Large Organisation

How to Begin a Security Transformation for Your SAP S/4HANA Project

As an existing SAP installation, you feel confident in migrating to S4HANA. Do you currently follow best practices? Have you mitigated risk across your landscape? Will you be exposed to the web or in a hosted data center? All these topics impact your level of effort for implanting S4HANA successfully.

The best time to plan an implementation is now. The center of your plan should resolve around user experience and risk mitigation. We will discuss how the approach is evolving, what to consider for SOD risk updates, and analyzing where you are to plan your future direction.

SAP S/4 HANA at ABSA, The Technology Journey

With only 3 countries remaining on our SAP single template journey and the knowledge of the ECC6 end of life looming, we were faced with having to make a strategic decision on how to approach Absa Kenya which was next in line. We had to decide if we were to implement Kenya on the SAP ECC group template or take advantage of Kenya being a fairly complex African business to prove a S/4HANA implementation prior to a South African implementation, South Africa being our largest and most complex business. Other important considerations were the upgrade path and how we were going to host the SAP Instances.

In this session, we will take you through our journey of implementing SAP S/4 HANA Central Finance (CFIN) on AWS, the business decisions, the technology choices, the learnings, and the challenges we faced along the way to meet our strategic objectives.

From a business perspective, we have achieved real-time replication, simplified reporting, a single source for consolidation, non-disruptive migration to S/4HANA, and implementation of SAP standard central processes. From a technology perspective, we achieved agility, scalability, efficiency, abstraction, security, resiliency, and total cost of ownership (TCO) savings.

Key takeaways:
1. This is a business transformation programme, not a technology upgrade
2. Focus on culture within the organisation
3. Start early and take everyone on the journey
4. Have FUN and fail forward

Discover why and how Google chose to replace their ERP platform with SAP on Google Cloud.

SuccessFactors LMS - A Boost for a State of the Art Learning & Development Capability at Distell

Little did we know, 2 years after the implementation of our LMS, we would double online content in the matter of a month, increase our learning hours exponentially and keep our teams engaged for the duration of lockdown and ready to return to work with a wealth of knowledge; not only for the jobs they were in but about our company and brands, manufacturing processes and health and safety protocols and well-being.

During this presentation, you will learn how we enabled and mobilised our learning teams to create new content and convert our instructor-led courses into online content which we are hosting in SuccessFactors LMS. We adapted the way we compile curricula, publish courses, and assess employees after completion of courses. We mobilised our employees and managers across the business in record time using the tools available in SuccessFactors LMS and the mobile app. We also have some aspirational plans for the next 12 months that will build on these learnings, our solid learning framework, and LMS foundation.

We built our learning capability on a strong foundation within SuccessFactors LMS and achieved remarkable results in record time. We will share how LMS was used throughout and the results we achieved.

Key takeaways:

  1. How SuccessFactors LMS can deliver results for learning and development irrespective of the challenges we are facing during COVID and lockdown
  2. We embraced the challenges working from home brought on and turned it into a success story

Driving Innovation, Stability and Quality in Payroll

Payroll is one of the most complex parts of HR for most companies, and it is also one of the primary Human Experiences employees have with the company – the delivery of their compensation.

Companies have to pay employees accurately and timely in a challenging environment that frequently changes. How can companies do this, while also striving to innovate with more self-service and other new features? Steve Bogner will present experience-based practices and methods for improving the quality of payroll calculations and delivery, maintaining a stable environment as changes and upgrades are rolled out, and innovating at a pace that is right for your company.

TDMS in a Nutshell

Have you ever wondered if you could have a tool that could select customised data from your production server for purposes such as testing? The answer to this is SAP's TEST DATA MIGRATION SERVER (TDMS).

TDMS operates at client level and creates non-production clients. The selected data from a client in the sender system is copied to a client in an existing non-production system. The idea is not to have the entire system copy, rather have the data which is more critical and required.

SAP Test Data Migration Server (TDMS) 4.0 enables the creation of lean, easy-to-maintain non-production environment using extracts of business data to minimise infrastructure and maintenance expenses while maximising the effectiveness and accuracy of your development, test, and training activities.

SAP TDMS ensures full data consistency and data integrity during the execution of the migration projects from the production to the non-production system. With an evolved Work Center, increased functional integration, and optimised performance TDMS has now 41 migration solutions ready to cover migration requirements end to end from preparation to go live and support. With SAP TDMS you can also transfer business-relevant processes or objects using SAP TDMS Business Process Library (BPL) like purchase order, accounting data, G/L Account A-segment, and many more.

SAP Test Data Migration Server is a high-speed data extraction tool that populates your development, test, quality assurance, and training systems with real SAP business data – which can also be scrambled – from your live production environment. Benefits of SAP TDMS:

  • Improved Quality of development, test, and training activities by using business-relevant and up-to-date test data
  • Increased Efficiency by reducing administrative efforts and time required to manage data in development and test systems
  • Higher Flexibility through capability to selectively refreshing single clients even big ones in SAP systems
  • Reduced Infrastructure Expenditures by decreasing data volume in development, test, and training systems
  • Reduction of Testing & Development Expenses through outsourcing of test & development activities while keeping sensitive data protected and remaining legally compliant
  • Runs on SAP Business Suite on HANA and on Cloud
  • Integration with SAP Solution Manager
  • Connect to the TDMS server anytime and anywhere by using SAP TDMS Manager which is an online application to facilitate regular interaction with SAP TDMS 4.0

In Closing With Agile and DevOps the testing cycles are getting smaller. Creating quality data within that cycle along with performing software testing can get really complex. To reduce cost, time, and efforts in the testing cycle -Test data management seems to be an ideal solution, with visible results. This instills a sense of satisfaction and trust in the customer, and better business is the outcome.

Key takeaways:

  1. Importance of Quality test data
  2. Quick turnaround times for system refreshes
  3. The minimum effort involved

Make SAP SuccessFactors a Market of Opportunities for Your Employees

New HR solutions are often implemented from a point of view dominated by the HR function. Whilst it is crucial to meet the needs of this important stakeholder group, it often leaves employees and line managers with the question “So, what’s in it for me?”

With SAP SuccessFactors, organisations have the right solution at hand to empower their workforce to take ownership of their own professional growth inside without looking outside. In this session, we explore ways to create a marketplace for opportunities your employees can benefit from instead of turning to Linkedin. A clear win-win is achievable by utilising features readily available in SAP SuccessFactors such as:

  • Talent profile
  • Talent pools
  • Mentoring
  • Continuous feedback and continuous performance management
  • Goals management
  • Learning
  • Onboarding
  • Qualtrics EmployeeXM

We’ll walk through use cases from other organisations, live demos, and new ideas to build an exciting vision: Empowered employees and line managers achieve their best personal growth for the benefit of the organisation. The HR function does away from micromanaging and being constantly overloaded to enabling, coaching, monitoring, and setting wide boundaries.

We’ll wrap up by discussing a roadmap to implement change step by step gradually making your SuccessFactors solution the first go-to place for employees seeking growth before Linkedin. If you are ready to let go and re-think some old-school attitudes or if you are already far up that road and would like to discuss it further, please join us for this session.

Preparing for Cloud Migrations – Debswana Success Story

Insufficient preparation for cloud migration could result in critical errors during implementations, therefore a well thought of cloud migration preparation strategy is essential.

Like many other methodological innovations, ‘The Cloud’ service offers high-performance tool based framework that adds value to the organizations’ digital transformation Agenda, providing improved availability of IT services, as well overall organization agility and efficiencies; a significant way to optimize businesses by implementing ‘elastic’ platforms which are scalable and delivers dynamic technology-driven services.

The Business World Is Changing - Is your SAP Implementation Keeping Up?

The traditional borders between industries are blurring. Where there once were product-driven industries and service industries, we now find car companies selling mobility services, agri-nutrient companies selling fertilisers to individual farmers and retailers going almost entirely online, changing the requirements for billing and controlling. Finance organisations are expected to deliver better quality information faster. Again, where once corridors were full of paper lists, now managers expect to find a smartphone app with a list of critical open items and key actions. Nobody is prepared to wait for the period close to see their margins or the consolidated view of their business and predictions and simulations are now very much part of the Finance world. As business models change, Finance is expected to deliver better steering information and advise their business rather than simply checking the numbers are correct. These topics are covered in "SAP S/4HANA Finance - The Reference Guide to What's New" and this session will dive into some of the reasons why organisations have begun a transformation and what they have achieved.

Key takeaways:
1. How industry requirements are changing and how this is reflected in the software
2. How the requirements on a finance organisation are changing and how SAP S/4HANA Finance supports this
3. How organisations are looking to introduce new steering models to gain better insight into the business

Liberty Life's S/4 Journey & Business Case Considerations

Is the Promise of Engaging Content and Easy-to-Access Dashboards for People Managers Finally Becoming the Reality that We Were all Sold Years Ago?

Whilst the team at SuccessFactors might have caught the SAP bug of renaming products, Stories in People Analytics does deliver the ability to present some pretty compelling interactive dashboards to your users. A must for Onboarding 2.0 (no other way to report data) and the platform for all future reporting builds in SAP SuccessFactors, but how are you considering using this solution? It might be that the solution is finally up to the challenge but are we in danger of just falling into the same behaviours and processes, but with prettier tooling. An old process and new tech is just an expensive new process, how will stop that from happening?

Unlocking your SAP Business Process Potential

Traditional optimisation methods are manual and rely on human observation to collect the data used for analytics. Manual process mapping is extremely time-consuming and one is more likely to miss critical process considerations. Strategic business decisions are often steered based on black-box processes, assumptions, or incorrect information. It is for this reason that PwC uses Celonis to accurately map the current working process with all its variations.

By benchmarking the core flow of transactions in any given business process, we are able to create a visualisation of 100% of the true process flows and volumes of transactions. This information can then be mapped against the expected flows, identifying all the variations to the process that have occurred. The tool is system agnostic and can analyse the process across multiple platforms. At its core, process mining is used to review control compliance, identify process optimisation opportunities and perform workforce analysis. By building on these key elements, the usage stretches across areas such as system migration (planning, execution, adoption monitoring), shared service optimisation, and various other use cases. Join us on a live journey for a hands-on experience, showcasing the power of process mining and the value it can add to your business.

Key takeaways:
1. How to generate powerful insights into the business processes within your SAP system
2. Leveraging process mining in your S/4HANA journey
3. Understanding the benefit of analysing a process to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and control failures

ERP IMPLEMENTATION: Learn From the Past, Avoid Pitfalls & Provide for Future Change

Change is inevitable, whether a move to HANA, a greenfield business implementation, an acquisition take-on or a migration between technologies or platforms. Among many factors of success, the ability to match the design with reality is fundamental.

Complexities of modern business and commercial environments combine with changing legal and regulatory frameworks to create a challenge for the best. The selection of implementation philosophies and methodologies is as important as the selection of talent and resources.

The looming exit of the generation that grew with SAP makes this crucial. Specific factors and decisions are often ignored, impacting the implementation results and limiting the long term viability of the implementation. These include:

  • Active project buy-in and involvement of the most knowledgeable business people in the organisation, not only the most senior or the decision makers
  • Blueprinting as key. A full appreciation of key elements is crucial to a successful design. Recognising the relationships between legal entities and their structures, multiple currencies, key reporting and control structures and the existence of special accounting ledgers is key
  • A blueprint that appropriately represents these relationships and structures must further cater for change, in a manner that avoids catastrophic failure of reporting and controls in the event of organisational change. This must include a set of rules for changes in structure and lines of authority, to preserve the relevance of reporting and control structures as embodied in the implemented design
  • Comparison of specific functionality with legacy or third-party systems should include the value of an integrated process and subsequent opportunities, and not focus only on modular benefits
  • Learning from past mistakes.  Do not simply rebuild a legacy environment on a new platform.  Capitalise on the value of a fully integrated real-time SAP ERP system
  • Choose the implementation and go-live date carefully, to increase the odds of success.

Key takeaways:

  • Do things better – avoid or fix previous mistakes and weaknesses, and provide for the future with an open mind (what if?)
  • Identify the correct stakeholders and business process owners, and keep them close
  • Take into account the overwhelming value and importance of integrated business processes

How SuccessFactors supports our Innovation Journey in Gold Fields HR

Looking at the modules we implemented to support our strategy, using reporting and analytics differently to make people decisions and the change management that continues to underpin our approach.

As a mining company, we have had a 7-year long journey to move our people management processes from paper to a cloud-based system. What started as a talent process optimisation journey grew into a wider-scale HR innovation journey to systematise all our processes and automate where we could. We have re-invented leave applications, how we do performance, automated talent review processes and presentations, use data and analytics differently and reopened debate around learning online. We battled through initial implementations but now can’t keep up with requests for new functionality from the business and providing greater access and mobility of data to line managers. Lessons learnt: Innovation and digitisation is a long-term objective requiring multiple partnerships with IT, implementation partners, business leaders and HR teams. It is also a never-ending change management journey as legislation changes on data privacy, technology advances (and security becomes challenging), business demands simpler and easier processes, employment models change and our working arrangement adjusts to the current climate. It’s a journey that had a start date but not yet an end date in sight.

Key takeaways:
Importance of partnerships in innovating and systematising HR processes.
Adapting SuccessFactors to business needs.
Challenges in reporting - what you need to know.
What can be automated and what are the requirements.
